Province approves plans to replace Burnaby Central Secondary building
The British Columbia government has given approval to the Ministry of Education to proceed with plans for a new state-of-the-art building for Burnaby Central Secondary.
The ministry recently announced conceptual plans for the $50.6 million dollar facility, which will be earth-quake proof and built to meet LEED Gold standards.
School District 41 (Burnaby) previously sought funding for extensive seismic upgrading to the existing Burnaby Central Secondary school building, which was built in 1958. However, the costs were consider prohibitive.
An architectural firm has not yet been retained for the formal plans, but a call for architectural services is anticipated by the end of 2008. Construction of the school is anticipated in 2009 and completion is scheduled for 2011.
